Entrepreneurs to compete for high-value domain names to launch their startup businesses

All entrants will have an opportunity to take part in a workshop, where participants will brainstorm ideas, develop their plans, and share ideas. The top three finalists will be invited to present their concepts at a special breakout session at the techie.com “Escape to the Midwest” trade show and conference, highlighting emerging tech in the Midwest region, October 26, in South Bend, Indiana.
“Cloud technologies, telepresence, and a shift away from traditional venture funding and toward incubator and accelerator programs have already started to shift the high-tech startup community to unexpected locations, like South Bend, Chattanooga, and Detroit,” said Techie.com Editor-in-Chief Dan Blacharski. “Both Escape to the Midwest and the EC1 Domain Competition will focus on putting a spotlight on innovation that is happening in unexpected places.”

All applicants will be asked to select from a portfolio of available domains, and to provide an elevator pitch that describes the concept for development and monetization. The entry fee of $50 includes two all-access passes to the conference (a $50 value). The deadline for registration is August 1, and completed applications with brief elevator pitches are due by August 15. “In addition to a great idea, we’re looking for entrepreneurs who have a strong leadership team, a workable execution strategy, and some background relevant to the business concept,” added Millin.
The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of $1000 on the day of Escape to the Midwest and meet with the World Accelerator team to have a chance to pitch in person their idea and team for membership in the World Accelerator program.
